Happy Birthday Miss Kat

Aubrey’s birthday isn’t til next weekend, but since we are going out of town, we’re having her party this Sunday. I can’t wait! I’m mostly excited about putting a cute little party hat on her and watching her dig into her personal little cake, fashioned by the very talented Abbi Z. I love having a reason to have people over, and this is a very special one. A year ago today, I was so swollen that I could barely wear flip flops, my back hurt constantly and I was cleaning everything from the blinds to the dog. I have to say, I HATED being pregnant and would be perfectly happy to never go through that again, but it was totally worth it. Miss Kat is my greatest accomplishment and she has been a joy in my life. She makes me want to be a better person, and to make her world wonderful and safe. I hope to see you all at her party this weekend. Whatever you do this weekend, have fun, wear sunscreen, and be nice! :)

If you are bored and have another 5 hours left til your weekend, check out this article.

Who’s your candidate?

This is fun, it lines up your views with the most compatible candidate (though most are out of the race now). To take this quiz, click here.

I got Duncan Hunter (?), Mitt Romney, then John McCain. Interesting!

Life goals…

I just got my July issue of Real Simple Magazine and it gave me a great idea. Every week, every paycheck, every event in my life usually generates a list. What bills to pay, a grocery list, Aubrey’s birthday party… unless I organize a list and stick to it, I spend too much money on stuff I don’t need.

Most of our schedules benefit from lists. But is it possible that my life, my fulfillment even, could benefit from a “bigger” list?  Here’s my list, and I’m sure I’ll keep adding to it:

1- save enough money and pay off all debt so I can truly be a stay at home mom

2- swim with dolphins

3- Go to/live in Italy

4- Learn Italian

5- Write a children’s book

6- Devote time and energy normally spent at work to charity work/school functions

7- Get my masters or become certified to teach

What about you? What do you want to do/accomplish/see before you die?

This made me laugh

And on rainy days like today when I’d much rather be in bed, I needed a laugh:

People are strange…

Well I haven’t posted in awhile because I have been busy doing lots of mundane things that aren’t worthy to write about- just living day to day life and waiting for the weekend. However, Aubrey’s first tooth has made its grand debut and I must say, she isn’t a fan and probably wishes for it to go back where it came from so she can be fed from a bottle for the rest of her life. I keep telling her that that probably won’t go over well with the fellas when she’s 15, and then Ryan tells me that we should keep bottle feeding her to keep the evil males away from his princess. I, however, am a fan of the Famous First Tooth. Its so teeny and white and cute! It kind of made me sad because its like, she’s not a baby anymore, but it also made me excited because I could see (albeit hair full of mush) in my near future a child who can feed herself.

All that to say that the tooth, it makes her chew on her fingers a lot. The child does not understand the concept of the teething ring. I have literally bought about 5 different rings- brightly colored, different textures, refrigerated, not refrigerated, Baby Einstein for crying out loud! and she just throws them to the ground because hey, she needs those fingers free for chew toys.

Yesterday Ryan brought her up to work and we all went to lunch together. While standing in line waiting for a table, a rather large older man came out the door with some other large old men and made the usual “She’s so cute!” comment to which we replied, “Thanks!” and to which Aubrey kept gnawing on her hands and drooling. Then homeboy goes “Oh! Can I suck on that finger too?”

Blink. Blink. Blink.

No you cannot suck on my 11 month old daughter’s fingers, you pedopheliac freak! Good Lord people, I mean seriously. Seriously? It was weird. People are strange. I can’t wait til she gets older so I can teach her how to give sickos like that a swift kick in the pants.

*Side note: I write this with a smile on my face bc when you get over the creepiness, its funny. And I am not going to train my child to go around kicking everyone who says she’s cute. I’m going to train her to first ask “Are you a democrat?” and then she can use her own judgement on how many times they need to be kicked*

An answer to a boring Friday morning

Thanks Megan for tagging me! Here’s how it works:

Here are the rules:
1. The rules of the game get posted at the beginning.
2. Each player answers the questions about themselves.
3. At the end of the post, the player tags some people and posts their name, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know they’ve been tagged and asking them to read your blog.

What was I doing 10 years ago:
I was living with my grandparents in Tulsa. It was a great time for me to get away from all the mess I had made of my life in Mexico, make new friends, and get really involved in my church. I also got my driver’s license and wrecked my mom’s car 4 days later, and cruising Memorial (in Tulsa) was like the coolest possible thing you could do.
Five Snacks I enjoy in a perfect, non weight-gaining world:
Any mexican food, Any chocolate, Dr. Pepper, My MIL’s homemade mac-n-cheese, Funyuns

In the real world: (I think this was originally about food, but random facts are more fun, I think)
1. Ryan’s nickname for me is Kitty. This started when we first got married and were obsessed with SouthPark and on this one episode, Cartman gets mad at his cat and says, “No, Kitty! Bad Kitty!” so whenever I’m in trouble, Ryan calls me Kitty. But it has turned into a term of endearment.

2. Incidentally, my nickname for Aubrey is Miss Cat, bc when she was a newborn, whenever she cried she sounded like an angry little cat. I have tried to dub Ryan “Daddy Cat” but he says that’s gay, so nevermind.

3. I measure my weeks by how many days til I have church again, I love it and the people in it that much.

4. I learned how to water ski when I was 4 years old. I hated it until I was about 15 :)

5. I like the people I work with, but my job makes me feel like my life is meaningless about 50% of the time.
Things I would do if I were a billionaire:

  1. Buy my church a building with land and put windmills on it so we wouldn’t have an electric bill. (I’m pretty sure that would cover the tithe but if not I’d give the rest in cash)
  2. Pay off all our debt and probably buy a bigger, fully “green” house. Solar Panels, rain barrels, etc. Oh, and it would be in Italy.
  3. Buy my dad a mountain. (don’t ask)
  4. Give Ryan oh, I dunno, a Mil or so to open a restaurant or a Whitetail World or something like that :)
  5. Make sure Aubrey is taken care of for the rest of her life and probably get started on another kid since I could afford one.

Five jobs that I have had:

  1. Dean Hanscom’s personal coffee maker
  2. Victoria’s Secret (first “real” job)
  3. Banking
  4. Administrative Assistant at SCU
  5. Administrative Assistant at IPHC

Three of my habits:
1. Worrying

2. Checking the news every morning as soon as I turn on my computer

3. I can’t go to sleep if I know there are dishes in the sink.
Five place I have lived:

  1. Tulsa, Oklahoma
  2. Mexico City, MX
  3. Santiago, Chile
  4. Oklahoma City, OK
  5. Yukon, OK

What do you want others to get from your blog:

Well, I like to write so its kind of an outlet for that to me. If people read it and get something from it that’s awesome but I don’t really have an agenda other than putting myself out there. I know why I read other people’s blogs: It’s a way to glimpse into their lives and things that don’t always come up in normal conversations.

I’m tagging Angie

Why is my head ringing?

So I have been sick since oh, last Tuesday. I haven’t been to work since Thursday so I am catching up on everything, feeling very productive until I just now looked at the clock and I have only been here an hour. I started feeling really really bad on Thursday so I went to the doctor, who told me I might have strep or allergies, then kind of looked at me as if to say, what do you think it is? So, I get antibiotics, the antibiotic of all antibiotics, the Z-pack. It didn’t really work, so I went back yesterday bc I was really dizzy and felt like my head was a tunnel. She then decided to look into my ears, and lo and behold, it was a “raging” ear infection.

2 pills of amoxicillan later (thank God Aubrey is the only freak in the family who is allergic to this miracle drug- just kidding! she’s not a freak, she’s just special) I feel much better. Only, why is the phone always ringing???
